Andrew Vanburen, China correspondent
NextInsight writer, photographer and translator Andrew Vanburen has fully covered Greater China in a variety of capacities, starting it all off as a volunteer in Hong Kong working with Vietnamese boat people prior to the return of the SAR to the PRC.
After working as a writer for two of Taiwan’s three English language dailies, he moved on to become a trade officer for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) at the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), the de-facto US embassy in Taipei, as well as a research analyst with Dresdner Bank, commissioned with assessing the performance of blue chip name-brand items on the island.
Following an academic leave to earn a master’s degree from New York University (NYU) with a concentration in East Asian history and politics and a thesis on Taiwan cinema, Andrew returned to Taiwan to become a lead editor at The China Post and weekly editorial writer for the island’s leading English daily.
From 2003 until recently, he was an editor and writer at XFN-Asia (Xinhua Finance) in Beijing, before joining NextInsight in April 2009.
